Frater Wach Decides for the Doctorate

wach_headshotFrater Paul Wach has almost finished the  MS degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of South Carolina where his focus has been on micro-/nanofluidics, nanomaterials, and bio-micro-/nano-electromechanicals systems (BioMEMS/NEMS).  He has decided to continue for the PhD.

Last summer Paul was asked to share his knowledge with the Savannah River National Laboratory to help with some interesting projects, including developing radiation detection devices and miniaturizing the plutonium enrichment process to the size of a microchip.  Largely because of this work, he applied for and was awarded a Fellowship with the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA).

“Being offered an interview was an honor in itself,” Paul wrote, ” I had very little expectation of being granted the Fellowship.  The specific position I will hold is with the Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles (ICBM) division of the Office of Nuclear Stockpile Management.  This is a once in a life-time opportunity that I could not pass on. It is safe to say that I will certainly have an interesting future ahead of me…”
